Dundalk striker David McMillan signs for Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone

David McMillan has confirmed his departure from Dundalk as the prolific marksman has made the decision to join up with Scottish Premiership side St Johnstone on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

McMillan was part of an all-conquering Lilywhites side that won the double in 2015 and was an integral component of the supreme three-in-a-row league winning side for the Town.

McMillan played a pivotal role in Dundalk’s fairy-tale European run in 2016 as the unlikely lads from the Louth managed to upset Europe’s elite and perform admirably in both the Champions League Qualifiers and Europa League Group Stages.

The former UCD man bagged five goals on Dundalk’s way to the Europa League group stages and was, at one stage, the Champions League's top scorer.

As part of a golden age in Dundalk’s history, McMillan won three league titles, one FAI Cup and two EA SPORTS Cups, with the most recent coming in a dominant 3-0 victory over Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium in their EA Sports Cup Final triumph over the Hoops in September.

McMillan made 125 appearances at Oriel Park in total in four years. The former Templeogue United schoolboy scored 74 goals for the Lilywhites, which averages just under 0.6 goals per game.

After much transfer speculation linking the Dublin architect to St. Johnstone of the SPL, Saints boss Tommy Wright spoke of his delight on getting the deal done.

“David’s a player I’ve known for quite some time and I knew he was coming out of contract and felt the time was right to make a move,” Wright said.

“He’s scored all types of goals, left foot, right foot, headers and he’s done it at various levels including European club football, so he has experience of a higher level than just League of Ireland.

“He’s a hard worker, a good age and without doubt capable of making the step up.”

McMillan had his say on the move, thanking all at Dundalk for helping him during his 4 years at Oriel Park and has said that he is looking forward to his exciting move to St. Johnstone.
