Dundalk re-sign goalkeeper Gabriel Sava for 2018

Dundalk have announced that Romanian goalkeeper Gabriel Sava has signed a new deal for the 2018 season.

The Italian-born keeper has committed to a fifth straight season at Oriel Park having joined the club from county rivals Drogheda United ahead of the 2014 season.

31-year-old Sava has spent the majority of his Dundalk career as back-up keeper to Gary Rogers but rose to prominence during the 2016 Europa League run.

Sava started in the group stage game against Zenit St Petersburg, a narrow 2-1 defeat for the Lilywhites at Tallaght Stadium.

Save worked his way through amateur football in Drogheda before signing for Bray Wanderers as a 21-year-old in 2008.

He signed for Drogheda United ahead of the 2009 season before making the short move to Monaghan United the following year.

Sava helped Mons to the League Cup final in 2010 and promotion from the First Division the following season, before returning to Drogheda in the close-season.

He won an EA Sports Cup medal with Drogs in 2012 and spent two seasons with the club before signing for Dundalk at the conclusion of the 2013 season.
