Watch: Ireland international Alan Browne sent off for Preston North End in bizarre circumstances

Former Cork City midfielder Alan Browne has been included in Martin O'Neill's extended squad for the World Cup play-off double-header against Denmark next month.

The Preston North End man will have to sit out his club's next competitive fixture, however, after being sent off late in Saturday's English Championship defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Browne was dismissed for a second bookable offence in injury time when, with his team chasing an equaliser, the Irish international hacked down the Wolves striker.

The red card came about in bizarre circumstances after the Cork native had to be called back ffrom the tunnel to receive his marching orders when aggro broke out between the two teams.
