Real Madrid's Cristiano Ronaldo scoops FIFA Best Male Player award

Portugal and Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has been crowned FIFA's Best Male Player for the second successive year at the association's flagship awards ceremony in London.

The 34-year-old again beat off competition from Barcelona's Lionel Messi to take the award that has taken over as FIFA's top men's award since its disassociation with the Ballon d'Or.

Messi's former Barca teammate and current Paris Saint-Germain striker Neymar was third in the voting, which drew from players, coaches and media representatives across Europe and, for the first time, an online poll.

There was better news for Barcelona in the women's category as the Catalans' Dutch star Lieke Martens was named Best Female Player.

She beat Venezuela and Santa Clarita Blue Heat's Deyna Castellanos and last year's winner, Carli Lloyd of Mancehester City and the United States, to the prize.

The Best FIFA Goalkeeper award went to Juventus' Gigi Buffon, while Champions League-winning Real Madrid coach Zinedine Zidane was Best Men's Coach.

Best Women's Coach went to Sarina Wiegman of the Netherlands after she led her country to become European Champions on home soil during the summer.

Arsenal's Olivier Giroud picked up the Puskas Award for his striker for Arsenal against Crystal Palace on new year's day, while Celtic supporters were awarded the FIFA Fan Award.
