Cork City v Derry City to go ahead despite extensive damage to stand

Cork City's league game with Derry City will go ahead as planned on Tuesday evening with the Derrynane Stand at Turner's Cross closed after being damaged during Storm Ophelia.

The roof on top of the stand collapsed as winds of more than 100 kilometres per hour pelted the south-west coast throughout the morning and afternoon.

An engineer visited Turner's Cross on Monday evening and was satisfied that while the stand would have to remain closed, no other structural damage has been done to the stadium.

The game has twice been postponed already, first at the request of the Candystripes when Ronan Curtis, Ben Doherty and Conor McDermott were called up to international squads.

The game was re-fixed for Monday evening, to be broadcast live on RTÉ2, but again pushed back 24 hours in order to avoid the worst of the storm.

Kick-off at Turner's Cross is 7.20pm.
