Legendary Dutch winger Arjen Robben has announced his retirement from international football.
The 33-year-old Bayern Munich wide man has decided to hang up his boots and call time on his stellar international career after failing to reach the 2018 World Cup with Holland.
Robben has had an impressive run in international and club football but has failed to add a World Cup winner’s medal to his collection, finishing runner up in 2010 and third in 2014.
Arjen’s international career spanned 18 years starting with the Netherlands U15 side and eventually becoming a senior star scoring 37 goals in his 96 appearances in the famous orange shirt.
Robben had become a highly respected member of the Dutch international team, making it to captain during the qualifying campaign and is sure to be a big loss for the Netherlands.
The famous number 11 shirt will be remembered by Robben’s clever and smart style of play, the fast paced dribbling and that famous left foot which gave the fans years of enjoyment and opponents plenty of nightmares.
Robben, who previously played for Groningen, PSV, Chelsea and Real Madrid, can now focus on life away from International football and look at finishing his playing career on a high at Bayern Munich.
