King calls for support ahead of crucial U21 qualifier vs Norway

Noel King has called on Irish supporters to get out in force to Tallaght Stadium to back his troops in what is sure to be a crucial weekend in determining whether or not the Boys in Green make their way to Italy and San Marino in 2019.

In the first of two qualifiers at Tallaght Stadium between Thursday and Monday, Norway make their visit to the Emerald Isle on Thursday with Ireland topping the table at the moment.  As it stands, Ireland top the group on 6 points with Norway in 5th place on 1 point.

King has noted that he and the team are expecting a tough battle against their Nordic counterparts by saying;

"It's going to be a tough test but it's one we're all looking forward to. We've started the campaign really well and you can sense that the players are really looking forward to getting back on the pitch.”

King has also made it clear in his pre-match remarks that he is ready to go to battle against Norway despite their higher ranking at that level.

"Norway are going to be a strong, physical side who can play it long and short, they like to mix it up, so they will present us with problems. They're seeded higher than us but we've got to focus on ourselves."

On top of this, the Under-21 boss has said that he is relishing the prospect of facing Norway in front of a big, vocal backing at Tallaght Stadium.

"You'd want a big crowd to come and drive them on. It definitely gives us that little edge in games. Hopefully the players can give the supporters a performance as well."

Finally, King has also praised his teams character after the first two games, saying that nothing no longer surprises him about the ability of his team, while hoping to carry on the momentum of the wins over both Kosovo and Azerbaijan.

"With the way they've started the group, don't rule out this group of players. They've really impressed me so far and hopefully we can continue to develop in these two games.”

In terms of team news for the game, Shamrock Rovers Trevor Clarke will miss out playing in his home ground alongside QPRs Olamide Shopido and Aston Villas Jake Doyle Hayes.

The game will be broadcast live on Eir Sport 1, with coverage of the game beginning at 7.15pm from the South Dublin venue.

Tickets for the game will be available on the day of the game, priced at €10 for adults and €5 for children/students/OAPs.

On the other hand, if you are a Student in IT Tallaght, an FAI Season Ticket holder or a Shamrock Rovers Season Ticket Holder, entry to the game is free.
