Watch: We've seen Sean Maguire's first Preston goal before in the League of Ireland

Sean Maguire scored his first Championship goal for Preston North End on the weekend, a well-taken header from Tom Barkhuizen's cross to put them 1-0 up against Barnsley.

In our article last week we remarked it was a 'familiar' sight for League of Ireland defenders but perhaps that underplayed the point somewhat.

It had all the attributes we've come to expect from the former Cork City striker over the past 18 months, from the strong hold-up play and clever distribution to the devastating headed finish.

Here we see Maguire come short to receive the ball and link up with his wide players, feeding the ball to Barkhuizen before backtracking into the box to get on the end of the cross.

We've seen this goal before, and very recently, in the League of Ireland, if we wind the clock back just over a month to City's 2-0 Premier Division win over Bray Wanderers.

Again we see Maguire wander out of his centre forward position, dragging the right-back Hugh Douglas with him as he creates space for those around him.

Playing an inch-perfect pass out to Karl Sheppard wide on the right, the Kilkenny man drifts almost imperceptibly into the box before nodding home Steven Beattie's cross.

How long until we see the Kilkenny man do the same for the national team?
