Derry City midfielder Rory Holden joins Bristol City

Rory Holden has signed for English Championship side Bristol City from Derry City for an undisclosed fee.

The midfielder has signed a two-year deal, with an option of one more, with the Robins following a trial period and will link up with the club's development squad at first.

20-year-old Holden has made 16 appearances for the Candystripes since being promoted to the senior panel by manager Kenny Shiels last year.

The Waterside native scored his first and only senior goal for Derry in a 4-0 victory over Sligo Rovers at Maginn Park in July and featured in both Europa League games against Midtjylland.

Holden was included in the Northern Ireland under-21s training squad by manager Ian Baraclough in May but also remains eligible for the Republic of Ireland representative teams.

The Candystripes have long-standing links with Bristol City. Stephen McLaughlin spent time on loan at Ashton Gate, and Barry McNamee and Patrick McClean have had trials while at Derry.
