Sligo Rovers winger Jamie McDonagh called up to Northern Ireland under-21s

Sligo Rovers winger Jamie McDonagh has been called up to the Northern Ireland under-21 squad to face Albania and Slovakia in their World Cup qualifying campaign.

The Belfast-born flier has been called up for the first time since 2015 as reward for his form since joining the Bit o' Red during the July transfer window.

McDonagh has appeared three times for Sligo as they've picked up four points to climb out of the relegation zone, though he was sent off in the FAI Cup defeat to Longford Town.

Northern Ireland, managed by former Sligo head honcho Ian Baraclough, take on Albania in Lurgan on August 31st before travelling to Senica to face the Slovaks on September 5th.

McDonagh will miss the visit of Falkirk in the Irn Bru Scottish Challenge Cup on September 2nd as a result.
