Defenders Gary Delaney and Robin Dempsey leave Waterford by mutual consent

Waterford have announced that defenders Robin Dempsey and Gary Delaney have left the club by mutual consent.

The pair have decided to try their luck elsewhere following the arrival of defenders Paddy Barrett and Sean Heaney on loan from Dundalk and Shamrock Rovers respectively.

Former Aston Villa youth Dempsey joined the Blues at the beginning of the 2017 season from Wexford Football League side North End United, making 11 appearances for Alan Reynolds' side.

Wexford native Delaney joined the Blues for a second time from relegated Wexford Youths at the start of the season but has endured a frustrating spell with only four league appearances to his name.

A club statement read: “Waterford FC would like to thank both Robin and Gary for their commitment and effort during their time with the club. We wish them every success in their future endeavours.”
