Sligo Rovers sign striker Greg Moorhouse from Glenavon

Sligo Rovers have announced the signing of striker Greg Moorhouse until the end of the season from Northern Irish Football League side Glenavon after a fee was agreed between the two clubs.

The former Crumlin United striker scored 16 goals in all competitions for the Blues last season, including ten in the league, enough to earn him a trial with English League club Coventry City.

Moorhouse travelled with Mark Robins' squad on their pre-season tour of Spain but ultimately a deal couldn't be worked out between the two clubs.

"I'm really excited. Hopefully we can start pushing up the table. That's why I'm here,” Moorehouse told the Bit o' Red's official website.

"It was a good season with Glenavon last year. I started off well. I had a little injury as I fractured my metertasal. I came back straight into the team and scored a lot of goals.

"The season didn't end too well as we missed out on Europe but I still consider it a good season looking back on it all. Hopefully I can come in and score some goals.

“I had a look at it. I was here on Saturday night for the Dundalk game. The signs were good. The result was deserved. There is a lot of fresh faces coming in and we can pull together and get some results."

The 23-year-old was part of the Crumlin side that won the Leinster Senior League Senior Sunday division in 2013/14 and successive FAI Intermediate Cups in 2014/15 and 2015/16.

Moorhouse, who was a member of the Irish Amateur side that won the UEFA Regions Cup in Dublin in 2015, moved to Lurgan to sign up with Glenavon ahead of the 2015/16 season.

There he came to the attention of then-Cliftonville boss Lyttle, scoring an injury-time winner against the Reds at Mourneview Park.

Lyttle is expected to make a couple more additions to his squad before the deadline for signing contracted professionals passes tonight.
