Stephen Bradley confirms Hoops still keen on Greene

Stephen Bradley hasn't given up on making Aaron Greene a Shamrock Rovers player before Monday night's deadline for signing contracted professionals.

The Dubliner – who spent a season at Tallaght Stadium in 2012 – is one of a number of players who want away from the unstable Wicklow club before close of business today.

27-year-old Greene has been one of the leading lights in an exciting Bray side this season but the club are still yet to demonstrate they have the financial security to last the season.

The Seagulls have spent the majority of the season in contention for Europe but have slipped to four successive defeats amid growing doubts over the club's ability to meet contract commitments.

The former Ireland under-21 international is one of the few Bray players who could command a transfer fee – Dundalk boss Stephen Kenny also expressed an interest – but Bray bosses have so far held firm.

“We made a bid for Aaron Greene, a second bid, so I'm not sure how Bray will respond to it,” Bradley told reporters following Friday's disappointing Dublin Derby defeat to Bohemians.

“We made two bids so we'll see where that goes. We've one or two other things from England but nothing concrete yet.

“He'd add to what we already have with his pace and his power and his directness. He causes problems for defences and will add more pace to our team.

“We already have Trevor [Clarke], Brandon [Miele] and Shawsie [Gary Shaw] who are quick and he's just another one that can give us that bit of pace to add to it.

“He's not our player yet – he's Bray's player. We've made a bid and let's see where it goes.”

Regardless of whether or not the bid for Greene proves successful, it appears Darren Meenan is out of the manager's plans entirely and will be allowed to leave.

Bradley confirmed the club are looking to send the winger out on loan, with a number of League of Ireland clubs already having made enquiries.

The former Dundalk man has been a peripheral figure since picking up a late red card for diving in the 2-1 victory over Stephen Kenny's Lilywhites at Tallaght Stadium in May.

Since then, he's played just 51 minutes of competitive football across five substitute appearances and was left out of the squad that travelled to Mlada Boleslav in the Europa League.

“Maybe Darren Meenan might go out on loan. A few [offers] are in but nothing has suited both Darren and the club yet, so we'll try and get that right. If it does, he'll go, other than that he'll stay.”

The club are expected to announce the signing of winger Darren Clarke and full-back Dean Carpenter shortly from junior side Collinstown.

Former Cabinteely man Clarke is the older brother of Rovers flyer Trevor while Carpenter was part of the side that beat Rovers 2-0 in the EA Sports Cup in 2016.
