Watch: Stunning Izzy Akinade goal sets up Bohemians for Dublin derby win over Shamrock Rovers

A stunning individual goal from Ismahil Akinade on his first start in 11 months set Bohemians on their way to a morale-boosting 2-1 Dublin derby win over Shamrock Rovers at Tallaght Stadium.

The Gypsies faced being sucked back into a relegation battle thanks to three straight defeats but goals from Akinade and Dinny Corcoran earned a victory that moved them back up to sixth.

Dave McAllister equalised for Rovers shortly after Akinade opened the scoring in the first half but Corcoran netted after the break to ensure Bohs avoided a first derby whitewash since 1990.

It took half an hour for Akinade to break the deadlock but it was worth the wait for the Bohs fans and neutrals in the stadium as the Nigerian practically burst the net.

Flicking on a Derek Pender throw to Corcoran, before taking the neat return pass, Akinade breezed past Ryan Connolly and Dave Webster before hammering an unstoppable shot into the top corner.

Having been taunting relentlessly by the home fans, Akinade made straight for the Rovers ultras in the East Stand, one of whom made it onto the pitch to confront him before being apprehended.

The Hoops equalised within three minutes as a short free-kick routine between Brandon Miele and Graham Burke ended up back with the winger Miele.

The Tallaght native lofted a cross into a central area where McAllister was waiting, unmarked, to steer a precise low header past Shane Supple in the Bohemians goal.

Akinade was to prove pivotal in the creation of the winner, however, taking Lorcan Fitzgerald's quick throw and squaring for Corcoran, who took his time before volleying into the corner of the Hoops net.
