He's the One: Robbie Williams the latest to depart Limerick by mutual consent

Limerick have confirmed that defender Robbie Williams has left the club by mutual consent after he was placed on the transfer list earlier in the week.

The 32-year-old has been a mainstay in the Limerick defence since he was signed by Stuart Taylor ahead of the 2013 season but has been frozen out under new manager Neil McDonald.

The Englishman was one of three players transfer-listed on Wednesday night, along with Paul O'Conor and Shaun Kelly, and he's wasted no time in cancelling his contract with No Regrets.

Williams is the third Limerick player to leave the club by mutual consent in this window, with Ian Turner and Chris Mulhall departing for St Patrick's Athletic and Drogheda United respectively.

“The club thanks Robbie for his professionalism, hard work and commitment over the past five seasons and wish him all the best in the future,” the club tweeted.

Pontefract-born Williams came through the ranks at Barnsley and spent five years there as a professional, memorably scoring in the 2007 League One play-off final win over Yeovil Town.

He made the move across Yorkshire to Huddersfield Town shortly afterwards and three seasons with the Terriers before his contract expired.

He spent six months each with League Two Stockport County and Rochdale before signing a one-year deal with Plymouth Argyle, and moved to Limerick the following year.
