Ireland under-17 striker Adam Idah joins Norwich City

Republic of Ireland under-17 striker Adam Idah has signed for Norwich City as an academy scholar.

The Cork native led the line for Tom Mohan's international side as they reached the quarter-finals of the under-17 European Championships in Croatia this summer, losing narrowly to England.

The 16-year-old scored four time as Ireland topped both of their qualifying groups and scored the winner at the finals in a 2-1 victory over Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Idah has plied his trade with College Corinthians in Cork for the past few years and has been on the radar of a number of UK-based sides before this season.

“Idah is a centre-forward and was a regular playing up a year for Ireland U17s last season, scoring eight goals in 10 games,” said Norwich head of academy recruitment, Gregg Broughton.

“He was identified as one of the players of the tournament in the UEFA U17 Finals in May, when Ireland were knocked out by England in the quarter-finals.”

Coincidentally, the Canaries held a pre-season training camp at Fota Island in Cork earlier this month and played Cobh Ramblers in a friendly at St Colman's Park, which they won 5-0.
