Drogheda United sign Chris Mulhall from Limerick

Drogheda United have announced the signing of Chris Mulhall following his departure from Limerick last week.

Mulhall joins Drogheda as they prepare to face Galway United in what is a relegation six-pointer with the two clubs currently occupying the bottom two positions in the Premier Division.

A former Shelbourne, Shamrock Rovers and UCD player, Mulhall joined Limerick in 2015 following the Shannonsiders relegation to the First Division.

Mulhall finished the season as joint top scorer alongside John O’Flynn, scoring 12 goals and appearing in all 28 of Limerick’s league games as they eased to the First Division title. The forward was also voted Players’ Player of the Year.

The 29-year-old then re-signed for Limerick ahead of this season but last week left the club in search of first-team football after making just two appearances under new manager Neil McDonald.

The striker may make his debut for the Boynesiders away to Galway on Friday night, should he receive clearance to play for Pete Mahon’s side, who have scored just 15 goals in 22 games so this season.

Mahon is hoping that Mulhall can play as well for the Boynesiders as he has played against them.

“I’m very pleased to add Chris to our squad for the remainder of the season,” Mahon told droghedaunited.ie.

“He had a great individual season at Limerick last year and hopefully with a consecutive run of games for us, he can recreate that form.

“I hope he plays as well for us as he has against us - he’s always been a handful to deal with.

“It’s no secret that we’re trying to add more goals to the team and I believe Chris can play a big part in that.”
