Athlone Town add Silva, Walsh and Curran to squad

Athlone Town have announced a trio of signings with Enda Curran, Stephen Walsh and Claudio Silva all linking up with manager Roddy Collins at the Midlands club.

Curran signs for Athlone after being released by their Midlands rivals Longford Town earlier this week, with six league goals to his name so far this season.

The former Galway United forward has worked with Roddy Collins previously at Athlone Town in 2013 before following his manager north to Derry City the following season.

The 25-year old played an important part in Athlone Town’s First Division winning season in 2013. The striker made just eight appearances but scored four goals in that time, two of which were game winning goals against Mervue United and Finn Harps.

Stephen Walsh was also released by Longford Town earlier this week and he follows his former Galway United teammate Curran to Athlone Town having both signed for Alan Mathews at De Town for the 2017 season.

Walsh spent time with Mervue United in 2012 and 2013 after Galway United disbanded at the end of the 2011 season but he signed for the reformed Galway club in 2014 where he was an integral part of the side that won promotion to the Premier Division.

The defender made 23 league appearances, scoring four goals and he also played in all four of The Tribesmen’s play-off games against Shelbourne and UCD that season.

Claudio Silva re-signs for the club having previously played for Athlone Town in 2016. The 20-year old made nine appearances last season as The Midlanders finished bottom of the First Division.

Both Stephen Walsh and Claudio Silva made their debuts for the club in Friday night’s 1-1 draw against Cabinteely at Athlone Town Stadium.
