There wasn't much to cheer about for Shamrock Rovers fans on Saturday afternoon as a young team with only two members over the age of 20 succumbed to a 9-0 defeat against Celtic.

They did very nearly have something to cheer early on, however, as teenage striker Sean Boyd came within millimetres of lobbing keeper Craig Gordon from just over the half-way line.

The game was still scoreless at the time when, having already sent a header narrowly wide, Boyd stepped up to send a looping shot over the head of the Scottish international keeper.

Full credit to Gordon as he managed to backtrack enough to just barely claw the ball away from his goal, denying what would have been a goal of the season contender in any league.
