FAI brings charges in Athlone Town investigation

The Football Association of Ireland have confirmed that charges have been brought against unspecified members of Athlone Town.

These charges are part of the FAI’s investigation into alleged match fixing at the middlands club which began after the Association received a report from UEFA regarding irregular betting patterns on international markets during a First Division game.

The game in question was the Midlands Derby between Athlone Town and Longford Town on Saturday, April 29th. Athlone lost the match 3-1.

The association subsequently reported that it had widened its investigation into two additional First Division games, also involving Athlone Town.

A hearing will take place with the Independent Disciplinary Committee on Thursday, August 3rd.
