St Patrick's Athletic sign Dutch defender Jordi Balk

St Patrick’s Athletic have announced the signing of Dutch centre back Jordi Balk from Eerste Divisie side FC Oss.

The Saints have signed the defender afer he impressed on trial in their 1-0 friendly win over Scottish club Heart of Midlothian, on July 5th, playing the full 90 minutes.

The 23-year-old began his career as a member of the youth academy of Eredivisie club FC Utrecht before signing for Scottish Premiership side Ross County in July 2014.

Balk made just four Premiership appearances for The Staggies before being released from his contract in November of the same year.

The centre-back returned to his homeland in January 2015 to sign for FC Oss of the Netherlands Eerste Divisie, where he would spend three seasons.

Balk is manager Liam Buckley’s third signing this week after the struggling side managed to secure the services of both Killian Brennan and former Ipswich Town and Crystal Palace player Owen Garvan.

The club are awaiting Balk’s international clearance before they learn if he can make his debut against Cork City at Turner's Cross on Sunday (kick-off 2pm).
