Jesse Devers and Robert Spelman leave Galway United

Galway United have announced the departure of both Jesse Devers and Robert Spelman from the club.

Devers began his career with Manulla FC in Mayo before leaving in 2013 and spending two years with Wolverhampton Wanderers.

The forward signed for Galway United at the start of the 2016 season and went on to make 20 appearances for The Tribesmen scoring his only goal for the club in a 2-2 draw with Drogheda United this season.

Spelman has signed for Athlone Town until the end of the season with a view to returning to the club next year with first-team experience under his belt.

The midfielder played his underage football with local club Mervue United before signing for Galway United’s under-19 side in 2015.

The 19-year-old was included in Shane Keegan’s senior squad for the 2017 season and made his debut against Mayo League in the EA Sports Cup in March.

"We would like to thank Jesse Devers for his commitment over the last two years with the club. We wish Jesse the best in his career going forward,” manager Shane Keegan said in a statement released by the club.

"Rob Spelman is a player with huge potential. I would like to see him playing as much first team football as possible.

“Rob is signing for Athlone Town with a view to coming back on board and kicking on with Galway United next season."

Galway United host Limerick FC in Eamonn Deacy Park this Friday night in the Premier Division (kick-off 7.45pm).
