Derry City's chances of progressing beyond a round in the Europa League were all but wiped out as they suffered a heavy 6-1 defeat to Danish opponents FC Midtjylland in Herning on Thursday night.
The Candystripes were always likely to be up against it and they didn't help themselves with the concession of two set-piece goals within the first ten minutes.
First Marc Dal Hende headed home at the back post from captain Jakob Poulsen's free-kick, before Kristian Riis swept home after Poulsen's corner was dummied in the box.
Poulsen added a third from the penalty spot a minute before half time, and the scoring continued after the break as Simon Kroon added two in the space of five minutes to give the home side a 5-0 lead.
Ronan Curtis did manage to pull one back for Kenny Shiels' side midway through the second half after Nathan Boyle caught Riis in possession inside his own box and squared for his strike partner.
However normal service was restored seven minutes from time as substitute Bozhidar Kraev fired the ball into the corner of the net past Ger Doherty.
