Stephen Walsh Betting Column (June 30th 2017)

As we approach the 20th week of the column has still only landed the treble once with last week seeing only a third of the bets come off owing to Limerick conceding a late equaliser and UCD defeating Waterford.

This week we will again be playing for the Sophia Housing Association, with Paddy Power again sponsoring and enhancing the bet.

I will keep the column short and sweet this week as by now unless we get a few winners; numbers reading this column will dwindle.

For those wondering, this column chose its bets on Wednesday night before any transfer dealings had taken place amongst teams.

First up in the treble we will be going for Dundalk to defeat Bray Wanderers in the Carlisle Grounds tonight. Dundalk have been steady the last few games and have yet to reach the heights of last season of late but they are getting goals while not conceding and this is a big benefit. Bray are still in with a very good shout of Europe come the end of the year and will want to get something from this game  However Dundalk will be backed at 4/7/

Next up in the treble I will be going for Limerick. Yes I know they contributed to breaking the bet last week but I think they should have more than enough to beat a troubled Drogheda United side. The Louth based side will be missing Thomas Byrne through suspension while the departure of two players in Marc Griffin and Killian Brennan suggest that all is not well in the camp. Limerick on the other hand only have a few minor injury worries and will be expected to claim the three points despite there being less than ten points separating the sides on the table.

Lastly we will be backing UCD to defeat Wexford. UCD are going to have to treat every game between now and the end of the season like a final as they will need to capitalise on every mistake by Waterford in order to have a chance of promotion. Wexford have recruited a number of players from junior football in the last week, but even despite the added players they will be massive underdogs for the game tonight with the students expected to win.

Bets:

Dundalk 4/7

Limerick 5/6

UCD 4/5

Normal odds 4.61/1

Paddy Power Enhanced odds: 6/1 (Click to view bet on Paddy Power)
