Shelbourne re-sign defender Sean Byrne

Shelbourne have announced the re-signing of defender Sean Byrne.

The Dubliner signs from Leinster Senior League side St Mochta's, having helped the Blanch club to their first-ever Senior Sunday title last month.

27-year-old Byrne played schoolboy football with Belvedere and Home Farm before joining Bohemians in 2008.

He began his first stint at Shels in 2010 under the management of Dermot Keely. In his first season he made 29 league appearances and scored two goals for the Reds.

In the 2011 season, Byrne made 12 league appearances, with six of these coming from the bench, and played in the FAI Cup Final as Shels were edged out by Sligo Rovers in a penalty shootout.

During Shelbourne's return to the Premier Division in 2012, Byrne made 13 league appearances and three FAI Cup appearances, one EA Sports and Leinster Senior Cup appearance.

During his time away from Shels he played for Athlone Town, where he won a First Division title, and Tolka Rovers, before returning to League of Ireland football with Waterford in 2016.

Byrne rejoins Shels with the club in fourth position in the First Division with 22 points.
