Harry Kenny: 'We try not to mention this whole Europe thing'

Bray Wanderers had the running of Eamonn Deacy Park during much of their 1-2 win over Galway United on Friday night.

That win keeps The Seagulls in third place in the Premier Division but manager Harry Kenny is playing down talk of his side clinching a European place for next season.

“We try not to mention this whole Europe thing, the only place I’m going to in Europe is on my holidays,” he said speaking to reporters after Friday night’s game.

“We’re just taking each game as it comes and I genuinely mean that, like we would have been happy to stay away from the relegation at the start of the season so delighted where we are.

“We have two really tough games coming up in Dundalk and Cork if we can get results there we might start talking about Europe but up until now no way,” he added.

Galway United manager Shane Keegan was again left disappointed after his side suffered another loss leaving him with just one point from five games.

Defensive woes were again one of Keegan’s main talking points after the game.

“The goals were really really poor goals when you watch them back,” he said.

“They got a bit of luck off Ronan’s attempted clearance but as Anto Flood heads that ball into the back of the net we had four players dotted around him and not one of them managed to get tight enough to lay a glove on him.

“The second goal was worse again, it was poor by two fellas who’ve had a cracking games apart from the errors which allowed the cross so easily and we’ve allowed Salmon to drift into acres of space, they’re just poor goals to concede.”

“The really frustrating thing for us is we actually have a very good back line that seems to make one stupid mistake at least in every game and have the rest of the game a really exemplary performance,” he added.

The Tribesmen are still struggling in the relegation zone but they’re just two points from safety and could pull themselves somewhat out of the mire with a win.

Heading into next week’s games and the rest of the second half of the season Keegan was pleased by his mid-season signing from Ballinasloe Town, Eoin McCormack, who made his debut on Friday night.

“I thought he did well he had a couple of really good moments early in the game he had a great one on one where he went by the guy in the corner and was unlucky to not be able to puck out his man,” Keegan said.

“We’ve plucked him out of a level where obviously it will take him a bit of time to get right up to the speed of the game and develop everything to turn him into a complete player buy I think we saw enough in tonight’s performance to feel that he is a guy that can be a very valuable addition over the second half of the season.”

Bray Wanderers face Dundalk at The Carlisle Grounds next Friday night while Galway United have two Premier Division games to face into. The Tribesmen also play Dundalk, on Monday, before a crucial relegation six pointer against St. Patrick’s Athletic at Richmond Park on Friday night.
