Former Ireland under-21 midfielder Alan Power signs for Kilmarnock

Kilmarnock have announced the signing of former Republic of Ireland under-21 midfielder Alan Power from Lincoln City.

Dubliner Power captained the Imps to the Conference Premier title last year as they returned to the Football League for the first time in six years.

Lincoln also reached the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, defeating Richie Towell's Brighton & Hove Albion along the way, before finally being defeated by eventual winners Arsenal.

The Imps were keen to keep the 29-year-old at Sincil Bank but, with his contract up in the summer, Power made the choice to move north of Hadrian's Wall after six years in Lincolnshire.

“It’s great to be here and to be given the opportunity to play in the Ladbrokes Premiership with Kilmarnock,” Power told Kilmarnock's official website.

“I’ve heard a lot about the town and the club’s history and I can’t wait to get started. The manager spoke about his visions for this club and it was an easy decision to make.”

Manager Lee McCulloch added: “I watched Lincoln's fantastic run in the FA Cup, where they defeated some big sides before reaching the quarter-finals.

“Alan played in all of those games and was the club captain. He has an aggressive style of play, has a hunger to get better, and has great experience that he can pass on to the younger kids.”

After playing schoolboy football with Crumlin United and Belvedere, Power moved to England as an 18-year-old and signed terms with Nottingham Forest, where he spent two years.

After a spell on loan with Grays Athletic, Power left the City Ground without making an appearance and joined Hartlepool United in 2008.

Power spent two years at Hartlepool, and a season with Rushden & Diamonds, before joining the Imps in 2011. He was named captain ahead of the 2013-14 season.
