League Preview: Longford Town -v- Cobh Ramblers

Second-placed Cobh Ramblers travel up to the Midlands to face sixth-placed Longford Town at City Calling Stadium. (Kick-off 7:30 PM).

 

LONGFORD TOWN

Since Gary Cronin took over as Interim Manager after Alan Mathew's departure, he’s overseen one game.

 

That was a 0-0 draw away to fellow mid-table merchants Shelbourne at Tolka Park before the mid-season break, in a game where the hosts had two players sent off.

 

The Midlanders, ultimately, could not make their numerical advantage count and were unable to find a winner, even though they had a considerable amount of chances to do so.

 

Their last home game was a bittersweet one - their biggest win of the season against Wexford (5-0) coincided with Mathew's departure an hour later.



 

Longford had not registered a home league win from the 30th of October 2015 to the 15th of April 2017, when they beat Shelbourne 3-1.

 

After being so poor at home for such a long stretch, they have three wins, one draw and three losses this season. Not a great home record but a lot better than previous seasons.

 

Although a long way off challenging for promotion, De Town can start building again for next season with a win over in-form Cobh Ramblers.



 

COBH RAMBLERS

An important game in store for the Rams on Saturday night. Win and they stay on Waterford's tails: simple as that.

 

Not only that, they have a great opportunity to consolidate second place, with third-placed UCD slipping up at home to Shelbourne last night, losing 2-1.

 

Three points tonight would move them five points clear of UCD and still only two behind the Blues.

 

Stephen Henderson's side go into the game in a rich vein of form, having won three of their last four in the league, including last week's 1-0 win at home to bottom club Wexford.

 

Ian Mylod was the hero in that game as he scored a 79th minute winner at the to open a two point gap on the Students.
