Derry City sign trio as Kenny Shiels steels for European bid

Derry City have added three players to their squad with the signings of Eoin Toal, Jamie McIntyre and Darren Cole.

Former Rangers player Cole signs for Kenny Shiels' side having last played for Scottish Junior Super League club Broxburn Athletic.

The 25-year-old Scottish defender started his career at Rangers before having spells with Partick Thistle, Greenock Morton and Livingston. He is also a former Scottish under-21 international.

More defensive reinforcement arrives at The Candystripes in the form of Eoin Toal. The youngster had been training with Derry City for several weeks and the club have now confirmed his move.

The 18-year-old made over 50 appearances for his former club, Armagh City, and the centre back is a former Northern Ireland under-17 and under-18 international.

Jamie McIntyre makes the cross city move from Northern Ireland Football League (NIFL) Championship club Institute.

The 20-year-old winger featured regularly for Stute in recent seasons, who were managed by former Derry City player Kevin Deery until he left last month.

McIntyre had been part of the club’s push for promotion to the NIFL Premiership over the past two seasons but now links up with the Candystripes, providing more options for manager Kenny Shiels on the flanks.

Derry City return to League of Ireland Premier Division action this Friday when they travel to The Carlisle Grounds to take on Bray Wanderers.

The club’s three new additions will not be cleared to play until the transfer window opens in July however.
