Limerick loanee Tommy Robson returns to Sunderland

Sunderland full-back Tommy Robson has returned to the English Championship club following the expiry of his loan deal.

The 22-year-old, who made his Premier League debut 12 months ago under former Limerick boss Sam Allardyce, had been ever-present in the Blues side since arriving at the beginning of the season.

Robson made 17 appearances in all competitions during his time at Limerick. The club had hoped he might stay for a longer period but he chose to return to Sunderland and fight for a first-time place.

“It was great to play for Limerick,” Robson told Sunderland's official website upon his return.

“There are some good teams in their league and they like to play a lot.

“When I first went over I wasn’t really expecting that to be honest because I thought it would be long ball football and direct play.

“We played out from the back so that suited me and helped me settle.

“Now I’m back hopefully I can have a good pre-season and stake my claim in the first-team mix.”
