Watch: Jon Walters, Cyrus Christie and James McClean goals seal Irish victory over Uruguay

The Republic of Ireland beat Uruguay by three goals to one. Jonathan Walters' goal before the half-hour was cancelled out by José Giménez ten minutes later but second half scores by Cyrus Christie and James McClean sealed the win.

Ireland took the lead after 28 minutes when Walters exchanged passes with his Stoke City teammate Glenn Whelan before picking his spot in the top corner from just outside the box.

It was just reward for Ireland's superior endeavour in the opening half-hour, but Giménez levelled matters seven minutes before the break against the run of play.

Jonathan Urretaviscaya's free kick from deep on the right was flicked on by the Atlético Madrid centre-half and over Darren Randolph, who found himself in no-man's land.

Cyrus Christie put Ireland back in the lead shortly after half time as he took a pass from substitute Wes Hoolahan and curled a left-footed shot into the corner of the net.

With 13 minutes remaining James McClean ensured the Republic would go into next Sunday’s crucial World Cup qualifier against Austria on a high as he grabbed his sides third with a brilliant solo effort.
