Shelbourne Ladies sign former Ireland international Mary Waldron

Shelbourne have announced the signing of Republic of Ireland international striker Mary Waldron following two years out of the game playing cricket in Australia.

Dubliner Waldron won back-to-back league titles with Shelbourne's previous iteration, Raheny United, before leaving the game in 2014 to devote her attention to cricket.

The 33-year-old captained Raheny as they won their first-ever league title in 2013, having previously played with St James's Gate, UCD and St Francis.

It was her hat-trick against Shamrock Rovers on the final day of the season that secured the Pandas a second successive Women's National League title in 2014.

Waldron debuted for the Ireland senior side in 2004, a feat she repeated for the national cricket team, for whom she was recently awarded her 100th cap.

“Having a player of Mary's ability and experience is massive for us,” said Shelbourne manager Mark Leavy.

“Her history in the league speaks for itself. She's a strong, tricky player who can score goals as well as bring others into the game around her.

“Mary brings a real presence which will be a huge boost throughout our squad.”
