Shamrock Rovers youth player Conor Grant signs for Sheffield Wednesday

Shamrock Rovers prospect Conor Grant has signed for English Championship club Sheffield Wednesday.

Grant signed for Shamrock Rovers from Malahide United in January of this year and has been playing with the club’s U17 team this season, and now the 16 year old is set to move to Hillsborough where, Ireland international goalkeeper, Keiran Westwood is also a player.

In a statement released by the club, Rovers Academy Director Shane Robinson said; "Conor first came to our attention playing for the Dublin and District Schoolboys League. A talented individual with the ability to go by his opponent with a drop of the shoulder. He has attributes we are looking to bring into our first team and has been a pleasure to work with in the short time he's been here. We wish him all the best in his new adventure".

“Shamrock Rovers have a pathway to professional football and is committed to providing this for home grown talent. Despite this Conor is an example of our endeavours to give young players a platform to excel and showcase their talents. If players like Conor go on to have a successful career in other countries then we will have played our part,” said the club’s Sporting Director Stephen McPhail.

The young midfielder will travel with Shamrock Rovers U17 side to face Kerry on Sunday which will be his last game for the club before his move to The Owls.
