Former Cork City midfielder Browne drafted to senior squad

Former Cork City midfielder Alan Browne has been called up to the Republic of Ireland squad to face Mexico, Uruguay and Austria next month.

With James McCarthy set to miss out with an ongoing hamstring injury, the Preston North End man has been drafted in and will link up with club teammates Daryl Horgan and Andy Boyle.

The 22-year-old has been drafted into train with the senior squad before, for the 2016 friendlies against Switzerland and Slovakia, but injury meant he had to pull out early.

He's one of five former Cork City to be called up to the 38-man squad alongside fellow debutant Kevin Long of Burnley, Horgan, Kevin Doyle and Shane Long.

Browne has made 35 appearances this year for the Lilywhites, having been a consistent prformer since making his breakthrough late in the promotion season of 2013/14 as an 18-year-old.
