Former Cork City defender Kevin Long named in Ireland squad to face Mexico, Uruguay and Austria

There's no place for Sean Maguire in Martin O'Neill's 37-man squad to face Mexico, Uruguay and Austria but there is one fresh face with a Cork City background in the form of Burnley defender Kevin Long.

The former City centre-half was called up for the first time after impressing in the Clarets' Premier League run-in. Long has started the last two games as the Lancashire side avoided relegation.

The Corkman has spent seven years at Turf Moore after leaving City as a 19-year-old but has had to be patient after tearing his cruciate knee ligaments on his Premier League debut in January 2015.

Elsewhere in the squad, there is a recall for promising Reading central midfielder Liam Kelly. The Ireland under-19 international was called into the squad to face Wales and Iceland in March but had to withdraw through injury.

Former Dundalk pair Andy Boyle and Daryl Horgan retain their places and former Bohemians defender Matt Doherty is recalled to a squad that features ten former League of Ireland players.

Ireland face Mexico at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey on June 1 and Uruguay at the Aviva Stadium on June 4 before facing Austria in a crucial World Cup Qualifier, again at the Aviva Stadium, on June 11.
