League of Ireland Attendances 2017 -- Gameweek 11

Cork City sit on the top of the SSE Airtricity Premier Division table with a perfect record of 11 wins from 11 games played. Five of those matches have taken place at Turner’s Cross where the Rebel Army have benefitted from the largest home support in the league.

 

Second placed Bray Wanderers were the visitors for Gameweek 11 and, in front of a crowd of 5,361, John Caulfield’s men defeated the Seagulls by two goals to one.

 

The Leesiders have welcomed 23,439 spectators in 2017 with an average gate of 4,688. Their Gameweek 6 match against Dundalk tops the table for the season with 6,746 packing the Cross. On the overall totals for 2017, City occupy the first three spots. Their other two games rank sixth and 14th.

 

For Gameweek 11, Cork City’s home game makes up 35% of the overall Gameweek attendance total. The total crowd for the ten games this week was 15,469 resulting in an average of 1,547. Dividing this between the two divisions, the total for the Premier Division was 12,974 (average 2,162). The total for the First Division was 2,495 (average 624).

 

Gameweek 11 attendances ranks as fourth best this season. Swapping Cork’s crowd figure for the best ranking attendance (Dundalk v Bohemians 2,848) in Gameweek 10 and the Gameweek would slip to 8th.

 



The second best attendance this week was in Tallaght Stadium were 2,570 turned up as Shamrock Rovers drew 1-1 with Limerick. As Derry City don’t give crowd numbers, we’ve estimated them into third for the visit of St. Patrick’s Athletic. Bohemians' 2-0 win over Finn Harps is fourth as 1,423 were present in Dalymount Park for the Gypsies win.

 

Waterford welcomed UCD to the RSC on Friday night and the First Division side managed a better attendance than two Premier Division sides. 1,386 were present for the Blues 1-1 draw with the Students.

 

The President of Ireland was on hand to witness Galway United’s 2-1 win over Dundalk in Eamonn Deacy Park and he was amongst the 1,317 in attendance. Drogheda United attracted 803 spectators for their stalemate with Sligo Rovers in United Park.

 



The three First Division games fill the last three places in the Gameweek. Shelbourne’s 1-0 loss to Cobh Ramblers was watched by 474, whilst 407 watched the derby clash of Longford Town and Athlone Town. Wexford’s 1-1 draw with Cabinteely was bottom of the pile with 228 turning up.
