Watch: Galway's McKey breaks Kilkenny hearts with late winner

Kilkenny United came within five minutes of their first point of the season only for a late Lynsey McKey winner to snatch a 3-2 victory for Galway at Eamonn Deacy Park on Sunday.

Kilkenny had taken the lead – for only the second time in four games this season – through Becky Conroy's well-taken finish from the edge of the box after 36 minutes.

It took barely a minute for Galway to get back on terms, however, as McKey bundled the ball in on the line following good work from Sadbh Doyle to turn the ball back across goal.

Kilkenny had just eleven players available in the matchday squad due to injuries and outside commitments and were always likely to feel the strain as Galway introduced fresh legs.

And Galway took the lead after the break when substitute Alina Cheatham's cross sailed over the defenders' heads to fellow sub Rachel Baynes, who volleyed in from the edge of the six-yard box.

Again, the equalising goal was only moments in coming as Conroy muscled Galway full-back Aoife Walsh off the ball in the corner and drove infield before smashing the ball into the top corner.

However McKey broke Kilkenny hearts in the final stages when she again bundled home from close range after a brilliant run and cross from Aislinn Meaney.

Kilkenny remain without a point in the league since a 1-1 draw with Cork City in February 2016.
