Watch: Shels remain winless after 1-1 draw with UCD Waves

UCD Waves lost their grip on top spot in the Women's National League but retained their unbeaten record as they drew 1-1 with champions Shelbourne at Morton Stadium on Saturday evening.

While Shels had drawn their first two fixtures – the second of which was given as a walkover against them after they were found to have fielded an ineligible player – UCD won two from two.

And the visitors took the lead after five minutes as Julie-Ann Russell was fouled in the box, and her Republic of Ireland international team mate Aine O'Gorman stepped up to convert the spot-kick.

It took Shelbourne just eight minutes to equalise, however, as Claire Walsh failed to clear a corner under pressure from Roma McLaughlin and captain Pearl Slattery stabbed the ball into the net.

UCD's Catherine Cronin forced a save from Shels keeper Amanda McQuillan when she volleyed Jetta Berrill's cross first-time, before Emily Cahill hit the bar with a well-time header.

After the break, a through-ball from Slattery picked out Niamh Prior, who forced a good stop from UCD keeper Brooke Dunne, while O'Gorman shot over for the Students as the game finished all-square.
