Extratime.ie hands over cheque to Blood Bikes South Charity

This evening Extratime.ie reporter Stephen Walsh handed over the cheque of €200 to Jim Deeney of Blood Bikes South at their headquarters out by the Bandon Road.

The €200 was raised as a result of last weekend’s winning treble involving; Cork City, Bray Wanderers and Waterford.

Jim Deeney who helps in the coordination of over 30 volunteers, who assist the Health Service in the transportation of medical items using their out of hour’s service in existence since 2015.

Just last weekend alone a call went into Deeney asking for the transport of a sample for testing from CUMH to Temple Street hospital. While the rider was collecting the sample; a call went in from CUH asking for a sample to be taken to Crumlin hospital. If the call had been a minute later the rider would have been on their way and this would have required the hospital to spend over €300 on a taxi to courier up the item. This is just one example of the money this organisation save the Irish state on a weekly basis.

When handing over the cheque; Deeney was asked as to what it would go towards and he responded; “It was great to be thought of for this bet and the money is much appreciated. The sum of money raised will cover fuel for about two weeks, or else a service for the bike. It will be used well.

“Last week alone we delivered breast milk from Donoughmore, Co Cork to Mayo for a child. They are just some of the trips we do on a weekly basis all ran voluntarily.”

Over the weekend, many people congratulated extratime.ie on raising the money for charity and for those looking to donate; they can follow the link attached; https://www.idonate.ie/donation_widget/register-donor-anonymous.php?pid=1286

Next up in the charity list will be the Sophia Housing Agency, who we will be putting on the bet for this weekend. Be sure to check out the Extratime.ie betting column on Friday morning.
