Watch: Dundalk score three to edge the Louth Derby over Drogheda

Dundalk kept within six points of league leaders Dundalk thanks to a 3-1 victory over Drogheda United in the Louth Derby at Oriel Park.

David McMillan and Michael Duffy scored to put the Lilywhites two goals to the good before ex-Dundalk striker Marc Griffin pulled one back before the break.

However a red card for Drogs defender Ciaran McGuigan - their third sending-off in seven games this season - and Brian Gartland's subsequent goal settled the tie in the home side's favour.

McMillan opened the scoring for the Lilwhites after 20 minutes as he headed home Dane Massey's left-wing cross.

Duffy doubled the lead for Stephen Kenny's side six minutes later as he slid in in front of Drogheda keeper Stephen McGuinness to tap home McMillan's cross.

Marc Griffin pulled a goal back against his former club just after the half-hour as he stole in at the back post to volley home Colm Deasy's cross.

McGuigan saw red for a second yellow card before Gartland profited from a botched free-kick routine to put the game beyond the visitors.
