Watch: Pats stage second-half comeback over Rovers for first win of the season

St Patrick's Athletic earned their first win of the season thanks to a hard-fought 2-1 win over ten-man Shamrock Rovers at Richmond Park on Friday night.

Goals from substitutes Kurtis Byrne and Josh O'Hanlon earned the three points for Liam Buckley's side after Gary Shaw had given Rovers an early lead.

Sean Heaney was sent off for the Hoops ten minutes before the break after picking up two quick bookings, and the Saints took control of the game thereafter.

Shaw had the travelling support in full voice after just 15 minutes as he turned home James Doona's cross-shot at the near post.

Graham Burke forced a low stop from Conor O'Malley shortly after before Pat Cregg was lucky the referee didn't spot him blocking Ronan Finn's goalbound shot with his hand.

The game swung when Heaney saw red for two fouls on Conan Byrne, and the Saints finished the half the stronger with Byrne forcing a wonderful save from Hoops keeper Tomer Chencinski.

Pats continued to dominate in the second period but it took an intervention from sub Kurtis Byrne to force the equaliser on the hour as he turned Michael Barker's cross past Chencinski.

And it was another sub, Josh O'Hanlon, who completed the turnaround within seconds of his arrival as he beat marker Roberto Lopes to head in off the bar with 15 minutes remaining.
