Ireland's Alan Judge signs new two-year deal at Brentford

Republic of Ireland midfielder Alan Judge has ended speculation linking him a move away from Brentford as he signed a new two-year deal with the club.

The 28-year-old's existing deal was set to expire in June, with a number of Championship clubs including Newcastle United keen to open discussions with the playmaker.

Dubliner Judge has yet to play for the Bees this season having suffered a double leg fracture – similar to the break suffered by Seamus Coleman – in a league game against Ipswich Town.

The former Blackburn Rovers man had just made his international debut at the age of 27, in a 1-0 win over Switzerland, before suffering the injury in the final weeks of the league season.

The injury, which required an operation, caused him to miss out on consideration for Ireland's Euro 2016 and he has only recently resumed light training, and is expect to take up contact training soon.

Judge played schoolboy football with St Joseph's Boys in South Dublin before signing terms with Blackburn as a 17-year-old.

He had successful periods on loan with Plymouth Argyle and Notts County, and joined the latter permanently in 2011 with only a handful of cup appearances to his name in Blackburn.

Judge was named in the League One team of the year at the end of 2012-13 before completing a move back to Championship Blackburn.

However, after just a year back at Ewood Park, Judge again departed, for Brentford, whom he helped to promotion to the Championship in his first season.
