Watch: Captain McBride wins it for Derry in Tallaght

Derry City made it two wins from two in Dublin this season as they emerged from Tallaght Stadium with a 1-0 win thanks to Ryan McBride's first goal of the season.

The captain led from the front as he smashed home from Nathan Boyle's lay-off to inflict a second defeat of the season on the hosts, whose early season optimism appears to have diminished.

The Candystripes could have taken the lead within the first 15 seconds as Harry Monaghan played in Barry McNamee, but the Ramelton man couldn't sort out his feet to test Tomer Chencinski.

Brandon Miele managed Rovers' only shot on target midway through the first half as he curled a tame free kick at Ger Doherty after Lukas Schubert was booked for a foul on Ryan Connolly.

Monaghan should have given the visitors the lead in first half injury time as he connected with Nicky Low's fine cross, but he didn't get enough on his header to steer it near the target.

They got the goal their more incisive play warranted halfway through the second half as the ball broke from Aaron McEneff's corner to McBride, and the centre-half finished emphatically.

Schubert saw red shortly after when he crazily decided to kick the ball away and, with the howls of the home crowd in his ears, Graham Kelly rightly produced a second yellow card.

Rovers struggled to break down the ten men of Derry as the visitors finished the game tight and compact behind the ball with Darren Meenan's wayward header their sole riposte.
