Watch: Second-half drama as Rovers beat Bohs in season's first Dublin Derby

The first Dublin Derby of the season survived a torrent of rain to go ahead in Tallaght on Friday night and Shamrock Rovers took the early-season bragging rights with a 2-1 win over Bohemians.

Brandon Miele and sub Michael O'Connor scored second-half goals to set the Hoops on their way before an injury-time penalty for Georgie Poynton set up a nervy finish in south-west Dublin.

Both teams went into the game on the back of opening day defeats, Rovers away to champions Dundalk and Bohs at home to Derry, and the pressure was on Stephen Bradley's side to deliver at their home ground.

Following a relatively uneventful first half of few chances, Rovers eventually took the lead just before the hour mark as Miele side-stepped Bohs captain Derek Pender and rifled the ball past keeper Shane Supple.

And O'Connor doubled the advantage 15 minutes later as the 19-year-old, a winter signing from Dundalk, got on the end of a swift counter-attack to slide home from Ryan Connolly's cross.

Bohs pulled one back in the closing moments as a shoving match off the ball between Daniel Devine and Stephen Best ended with a penalty being awarded against the former and Dundalk loanee Poynton converted.
