Cork City sign Lithuanian defender Rimvydas Sadauskas on loan

Cork City have signed Lithuanian defender Rimvydas Sadauskas on loan from Stumbras until July, pending international clearance.

The 20-year-old spent a week on trial at Turners Cross in January and impressed City boss John Caulfield enough to earn a loan deal until the summer.

Caulfield hailed Sadauskas as one for the future, however he may see more action than expected in his five months on Leeside given the imending departure of Kenny Browne to Waterford.

“Rimvydas has come in on loan until July and he has a very good pedigree,” Caulfield told the official Cork City website.

“He’s only 20 years old. He has a lot of qualities and we are going to work with him over the coming weeks with a view to bringing him up to the level he needs to be at to challenge for a place in the squad.

“There is a Cork connection in his club in Lithuania and we have built up a good relationship with them over the last few weeks.”

Sadauskas made 31 appearances for Stumbras in the A Lyga, the top tier of Lithuanian football, last year and was rewarded with a call-up to the under-21 national team.

Speaking to Stumbras' official website, Sadauskas said: “For me it is a dream come true. I always wanted to play abroad, so I'm very happy.

“I think the team is strong. Not only their players, but also the climate - you can achieve a lot. They are the country's vice-champions, and that says a lot.

“As for the structure of the club, everything is much more professional, definitely at a higher than in Lithuania. The team plays a fast and aggressive football - one of the features of Irish football "

Sadauskas joins fellow loanee Ryan Delaney, who has signed until July from Burton Albion, in the shake-up at the heart of City's defence alongside Alan Bennett and captain John Dunleavy.
