Cork City to sign Christian Nanetti

Cork City will this week announce the signing of Christian Nanetti from Welling United this week. Welling United play in the Vanarama National South.

Nanetti will be best known to most football fans for beating England and Manchester City superstar Raheem Sterling in Soccer AM’s skill school when both were at QPR.

Since then Nanetti has had a journeyman career featuring for teams as obscure as Walton Casuals, along with working part time as a waiter so as to keep the football dream alive.

The Italian played a trial game at left midfield against Cobh Ramblers earlier this month. He was ‘Trialist B’ on the team sheet that day when City emerged victorious 3-1.

Welling United manager Tristan Lewis confirmed to ‘WingsTV’ after his side’s 1-1 draw with Weston Super Mare yesterday that Nanetti was moving to Leeside.

“Losing Christian has been a big blow for us as he has been brilliant for us,” said Lewis.

“He is gone to Cork City; he has been given an offer that he couldn’t refuse. It is disappointing but we will have to move on.

“We tried to keep him as a few were interested in him and I know that people spoke to him. We fought tooth and nail to keep him as his performances were good but it wouldn’t surprise me in the future to see him back wearing a Welling shirt.”

This will come as a boost to the team that recently won the President’s Cup on Friday night but have lost Kenny Browne in the meantime to neighbours Waterford United.
