Local boy Shane Grimes signs new Dundalk contract

Dundalk have announced that left-back Shane Grimes has signed a new deal with the club

A native of the town, Grimes signs on for a third season under Stephen Kenny, having joined from Drogheda United, and a sixth season overall having made his debut for the Lilywhites at the age of 18.

His career appeared to be up in the air following the hamstring injury he suffered during Dundalk’s 5-2 defeat to St. Patrick’s Athletic last October but, having seen specialists and with his injury healing sufficiently, the 30-year-old will be able to return to playing and challenge Dane Massey for the left full-back berth.

Shortly after re-signing, Grimes spoke with dundalkfc.com and expressed his delight at being able to sign the new deal.

“I am happy to get the contract sorted and it’s great to be back,” Grimes said.

“With the leg and the injury I wasn’t sure whether I would get anything but I am delighted that I have.

“It’s good to get it all sorted so I can focus fully now on the recovery and getting back into the setup.”

Dundalk open their drive for four consecutive league titles at home to Shamrock Rovers on Friday week, February 24th.
