Finn Harps re-sign stalwarts McMonagle and Funston

Finn Harps have further strengthened their first team squad ahead of the 2017 Premier Division season by re-signing Thomas McMonagle and Michael Funston.

McMonagle, who has lined out 109 times for Harps across five seasons, normally plays his football at the heart of Ollie Horgan’s defence but can also play at left full-back.

Like McMonagle, Michael Funston is a long-serving member of the Donegal club. The 31-year-old has been at Finn Park since June 2012 and also played for the Ballyboffey outfit between 2004 and 2009 before spending 18 months with Dungannon Swifts.

Funston’s natural position is central midfield, but one of his main attributes is versatility, and as a result he’s featured in numerous areas on the Finn Park pitch during his two spells with Ollie Horgan’s side.

Shortly after the announcement, Horgan revealed his delight at retaining two of his most experienced players.

"We're glad we got it sorted out with the two lads, they have a lot of experience and know the standard required at this stage,” he told the club's website.

“They have both played a big part in getting us to where we are now and will no doubt prove themselves again in the battle we face this season."
