Hollywood comes to Drogheda as McGuigan returns from America

Drogheda United have added to their squad with the signing of versatile midfielder Jamie Hollywood from Bohemians and former defender Ciaran McGuigan, who has returned from a spell in America.

Teenager Hollywood captained Bohemians' under-19 side last season as they finished fifth in the Northern Division and runners up in the under-19 Shield, following a 3-1 defeat to Limerick in the final, a game in which Hollywood was the scorer for Bohemians.

The 19-year-old, who can play both a wide and central role in midfield, will hope to break into Pete Mahon’s Drogheda side as he begins his first season in senior football.

Drogheda have also signed defender Ciaran McGuigan, who played for the Boynesiders in the 2014 season. The Newry native began his career with spells at Glenavon and Armagh City before signing for Dundalk ahead of the 2010 season.

The 27-year-old moved to Sweden in 2011, joining Syrianska before returning to Ireland to join Drogheda in 2014.

McGuigan made 26 league starts at the heart of the Drogheda defence that finished 9th in the Premier Division before moving to America to work with his family business.

While in New York, McGuigan played for Lansdowne Bhoys FC in the Cosmopolitan Soccer League but has now again returned to Ireland and will look to provide competition at centre-half for Luke Gallagher and play-off final hero Kevin Farragher.
