Eric Grimes signs for Derry City

Derry City have completed the signing of 21-year-old goalkeeper Eric Grimes from Cork City.

The Republic of Ireland U21 player began his career at Leeds United before joining John Caufield's Cork City for a short spell last season.

Kenny Shiels was in need of goalkeeping cover after Shaun Patton decided to leave the club for Sligo Rovers in early December.

Speaking to the Derry Journal
, Shiels expressed his delight with the signing, he said: “Eric is at a good age and has a lot of potential,” admitted Shiels.

“He’s 21 and I want to bring my young players through at the same time.

“I was disappointed to see Shaun (Patton) go but hopefully Eric will be able to replace him and compete with Ger (Doherty) for the number one spot.”
